Agro and hydrometeorology Division

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

 Develop combined agro and hydrometeorolocal climatic information by using remote sensing and other related in-situ data is valuable in making proper decisions for managing resources.

OBJECTIVES

Monitoring and investigating the agro-climatic and environmental situation and its evolution in time domain in the country using satellite-based remote sensing and GIS technology.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

·         Monitoring and assessment of damage of the affected areas due to flash-flood, cyclone nor’wester and other natural events;

·         Land use and land cover mapping in relation/reference to agro-hydro meteorological variability’s;

·         Research on the effects/influence of moisture content in soil, temperature, rainfall etc. on the seasonal crops for optimal utilization of land resources.

High, Medium and Coarse resolution satellite data ( like, Quickbird, GeoEye, Landsat (MSS, TM, ETM), Terra/Aqua-MODIS, NOAA (AVHRR), Aerial Photographs, etc.

REASEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

  • DEM Generation and Preparation of Ortho-image from High Resolution GeoEye-1 Satellite Data in the Selected Area (a part of Banshkhali Hilly area of Chittagong district) of Bangladesh’

 A core study on ‘Climate Change Issues in Relation with the Hydro-meteorology and ENSO events in Bangladesh’

OUTPUTS/PRODUCTS:

 ·         Landuse map of Ecologically Critical Areas in Cox’s Bazar and St. Martin Island;

·         Landuse map of Sabrang area(Teknaf upazila) for establishment of exclusive tourist  zone by BPC;

·         Land zoning maps for two coastal  and two inland districts of Bangladesh;

·         Preparation of Detailed Landue/ landcover map of five tea gardens;

·         Post-SIDR crop condition of intensively affected areas (7 coastal districts) of

Bangladesh;

·         Impact of Landuse Changes on Environment over North- western Part of Cox’s  Bazar   in Bangladesh;
