Fisheries Division

BRIEF INTRODUCTION

:

Surveying, monitoring and mapping of water bodies and to produce digital database with high accuracy within reasonable time through applying remote sensing and GIS technology.

OBJECTIVES

:

  • Monitoring and analyzing the inland and coastal as well as offshore water bodies to make the fisheries management activities sustainable.
  • Disseminate this information to the relevant departments/agencies for proper planning, management and development ensuring exploration of water bodies and fisheries resources towards achieving their growth.

MAJOR FUNCTIONS

:

  • Surveying, monitoring, mapping and analyzing inland, coastal as well as offshore water bodies and shrimp farming areas  to enhance the fisheries resources of the country;
  • Identification and selection of suitable area for shrimp farming and other aquaculture;
  • Identification and location of fishing zone in the Bay of Bengal.
  • Dissemination of the information to the relevant department/agency for planning, management and development of fisheries resources.

  • Large water bodies maps of the country
  • Small water bodies maps for 40 selected upazilas
  • Shrimp farming area maps for selected areas
  • Suitability map for shrimp farm development in some selected coastal area
