IRMS INTEGRATED RIVER MONITORING SYSTEM (IRMSRG) BASED ON REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES
Water Resources Division of SPARRSO has been carrying out research
works under the five-year plan (2011 – 2015) for its research and
operational work to establish an operational system for monitoring
rivers in the country. The ultimate objective of this research is to
set up regular vigilance over the river network in the country through
establishing a remote sensing and GIS based river monitoring system.
The particular tasks of the system are:
1. Monitoring the changes in the morphology and sediment transportation in the river system.
2. Trend analysis of the changes in the river network system with the intention to predict future changes.
3. Provide supplementary information for analysis of drought and flood situation in the country.
A yearly report on the changes of the river network system in
Bangladesh. The report will detail the changes in the river morphology
and sediment transportation. Event based report on the change of
morphology of particular river will be provided in near real time. The
yearly report will provide a trend analysis of the changes in the river
network system with the intention to predict future changes.
status of the system: Work is going-on to generate decadal river
morphology digital datasets based on Landsat images of 1973, 1980,
1989, 2000 and 2010.
Last update: 14 March 2013.
