National Water-logging Monitoring System (WLMSRG) based on Remote Sensing and GIS Techniques:

Introduction: Water Resources Division of SPARRSO has been carrying out research works under the five-year plan (2011 – 2015) for its research and operational work to establish a system for monitoring water-logging in the country. The ultimate objective of this research is to develop and establish national system for monitoring water-logging operationally in Bangladesh based on remote sensing and GIS.

Outputs: A yearly report on the situation of water-logging in Bangladesh. The report will detail the changes in water-logged areas and the causes of the changes. It will provide a trend analysis of the changes with the intention to predict future situation. The water-logging monitoring system will provide early information on the occurrence of water-logging in the any part of the country and thereby helps to take necessary action by the concerned authority to undertake measures for reclamation at early stages of water-logging.

Present status of the system: Work is going-on to generate decadal digital datasets of water bodiesbased on Landsat images of 1973, 1980, 1989, 2000 and 2010 to find out the water-logged areasin the country based on LLWW method.
